About SprinklerBlueprint

SprinklerBlueprint is a free tool and guide library that helps homeowners design, price, and install their own lawn sprinkler and drip-irrigation systems — without hiring a contractor or learning CAD.

Why we built it

Installing an in-ground sprinkler system isn't complicated — it's just poorly explained. Most homeowners who could easily do it themselves either overpay a contractor several thousand dollars or give up because the planning feels like engineering: How many zones? How far apart do the heads go? Will my water pressure even run them? The math and layout are the hard part, not the digging.

We built SprinklerBlueprint to remove that barrier. Instead of graph paper and guesswork, you enter your address, and the tool starts from a real satellite photo of your property. It maps your lawn, places every sprinkler head with proper head-to-head overlap, sizes the zones to your measured water pressure and flow, routes the pipe, and gives you a complete parts list with a realistic cost — all before you buy a single fitting.

How the design tool works

Our designer combines aerial imagery with irrigation-engineering rules that a professional would apply by hand:

• Yard mapping. We use high-resolution satellite imagery so you start from your actual lot outline, then refine turf areas, beds, and no-spray zones.
• Head placement. Heads are placed for head-to-head coverage — the overlap that prevents dry spots — with arcs matched to each edge and corner. You can read the reasoning in our guide on head spacing and coverage.
• Zoning to your water supply. The layout is split into zones that fit the flow rate you measure at home, so every head gets full pressure. Our guides on pressure and GPM and calculating zones explain the same logic.
• Materials and cost. The tool builds a bill of materials and estimates the project cost so you can compare DIY against a contractor quote.

The design is a starting point that reflects sound irrigation practice — not a substitute for verifying local code, your exact water supply, and buried-utility locations on site.
